NDIS Plan For Speeding Up Support Access for Children

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) are leaping into action to see to it that children gain faster access to the supports they need from the NDIS.

Steps to ensure this include communicating with Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) Partners to obtain more resources, as well as the development of a standardised interim plan for children who are more likely to encounter waiting periods exceeding 50 days when trying to access decision and getting a plan. The interim plan will ultimately see those participants to a full NDIS plan no later than six months after the issue date.

NDIA Early Childhood specialists will also be assigned to members with complex support needs to provide them with advice on suitable funding packages and plan development.

Statistics from 31 March 2019 state that out of 280,000 NDIS members:

  • over 85,000 had never had access to state or federal disability supports.
  • more than 11,500 children between the age of 0-6 are getting support by way of the ECEI approach.
