Federal Funding for NDIS Confirmed

The released Federal Budget 2018-19 confirmed the Government's commitment to funding the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The NDIS is said to be on track for its full implementation in 2020.

The Budget also announced $64.3 million to establish an NDIS Jobs and Market Fund to grow the NDIS workforce and service providers.

Chief Executive of disability providers peak body National Disability Services, Dr. Ken Baker, welcomes the news despite initial concerns regarding the scrapping of the Medicare levy increase that was intended to fund the NDIS.

“In tonight’s budget the government has been true to its word in finding another way to fund the NDIS. This scheme is too important to hundreds of thousands of Australians not to be fully funded – and it’s clear the government agrees.

Dr. Baker added that more needed to be done to fix NDIS implementation issues and improve quality of plans and processes to ensure the sustainability of the disability sector.

Prior to the Budget's release, Minister for Social Services Dan Tehan was confident that the Government would fully fund the NDIS without increasing the Medicare levy.
