Website Development

websiteCheck your domain name

The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) reported that around 1,000 Australian domain names currently fail to be renewed each day. The time and money spent renewing a domain name are minimal, typically about $15 a year. However, if a business fails to do this, the domain name can easily end up on the 'dropped domains' website, for others to register and sell.

Whoever has control over the domain name can set up a basic e-mail service and capture your password reset e-mails, leading cybercriminals to gain control of:

  • confidential documents of former clients,
  • confidential documents of the former practice,
  • confidential e-mail correspondence, and
  • personal information of former clients.

The ACSC has published advice on the threat and prevention measures a small business can take here.
