NDS launching ACT allied health market capacity building project

With support from NDP, NDS has received a grant from the ACT Government - part of the Commonwealth NDIS Sector Development fund- to support the ACT allied health sector to build capacity to meet demand for therapy services under the NDIS.

This is an important opportunity to progress measures to address what is clearly a market gap. We invite all stakeholders that are interested to be involved.

The grant will fund a six-month project that will build on and move to implement the ideas for building capacity that emerged from the NDIS Allied Health Workforce Forum that NDS co-convened in April 2016.

The three areas of activity that were thought by forum participants to have practical potential were:

  1. Face-to-face information and networking activities for therapists of all types so they can better appreciate the need, opportunities and nature of the services (funded by NDIS packages) being sought by people with disability

  2. An online network platform/tool for allied health professionals to connect, share and coordinate knowledge, expertise and capabilities relevant to supporting people with disability

  3. Establishment of an ACT allied health multi-stakeholder working group to develop further solutions, particularly for complex sector-wide issues such as student placements

Those involved would have the opportunity to decide on and contribute to the development of approaches and platforms to deliver on these ideas. Involvement would require some commitment but also reflect and respect the time stakeholders have available. A number of representatives of key allied health professions have already come on-board, but there is both scope and a desire for more - with as wide representation as is possible.
