Vic COVID-19 Update: Regional lockdown lifted

What you need to know

  • Excluding Shepparton, regional Victoria will come out of lockdown at midnight, 9 September
  • Some restrictions remain, including no visitors at home; masks must be worn outside and at work
  • Community and non-residential disability services will be capped at 20 per facility, excluding staff. A density of 1 person per 4 square metres applies


The Victorian Government has announced the lockdown in regional Victoria will lift with eased restrictions from midnight, Thursday 9 September. Greater Shepparton and metropolitan Melbourne remain in lockdown.

There are no restrictions on leaving home and travel is permitted across regional Victoria. Travel to metropolitan Melbourne remains for permitted reasons only and visitors must follow metropolitan Melbourne restrictions.

If you can work from home, you are advised to continue doing so.

Information for regional disability providers

Workers employed in regional facilities will no longer need an authorised worker permit.

Workplaces can re-open with 25 per cent return, or up to 10 people, whichever is greater. A density of 1 person per 4 square metres must be maintained.

Community and non-residential services

Non-residential community services are permitted to open for people with disability with a maximum of 20 per facility or property. DFFH has confirmed this excludes staff. The density requirement continues to be 1 person per 4 square metres.

Restrictions remaining across all Victoria

  • Masks must still be worn indoors (except at home) and outside except if an exemption applies
  • PPE requirements have not changed for any disability settings across the state
  • Visitor restrictions for all Victorian residential services in remain in place
