Victorian Budget 2018-19 includes $13.7M in disability funding

According to the media release of Housing, Disability and Ageing Minister Martin Foley, more Victorians with disability will benefit from the 2018/19 Victorian Budget. 

$13.7 million has been allocated to roll out key initiatives from the State Disability Plan 2017-20, and support the continued transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). 

The State Budget will include funds for initiatives such as:

  • $172 million to make TAFE free for 30 priority courses in growing industries, including aged care, allied health, disability and mental health
  • $16.3 million to make public transport more accessible
  • $288 million (statewide) to support the education of students living with disability and learning difficulties, including $65.5 million for student health and wellbeing reforms, and $55.6 million to plan and upgrade 15 special schools across Victoria
  • $4.5 million to deliver the National Disability Insurance Scheme
  • Expanding the Changing Places program to create 11 new, fully accessible public toilet and changing facilities
  • Extending the reach of disability advocacy organisations.
