Upholding the Human Rights of People with Disability in NDIS Supports and Services: WA Quality and Safeguards Sector Readiness Project

For disability service providers in Western Australia.

"The purpose of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) is to promote, protect and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by all persons with disabilities, and to promote respect for their inherent dignity", United Nations.

This workshop aims to unpack what this means for NDIS supports and services - including what the barriers might be and explore ways we can uphold, promote and embed the principles of the CRPD into our day to day interactions with people with disabilities.

This workshop will explore:

  • The legislation and history - including the different frameworks which have existed, why they impact views of disability, the development and importance of the CRPD and DDA

  • Seeking and listening to the voice of people with disability, and acting on this in a meaningful way

  • Supporting Human Rights discussions in the workplace, how to address barriers and motivate others to create change

What will I leave with?

All participants will leave with a copy of the presentation and any resources mentioned throughout the workshop.

This workshop will be delivered by Eddie Drury. Eddie is a registered social worker and has been working in Positive Behaviour Support for the past 10 years, as a practitioner, manager, policy-writer and trainer. Eddie now works as a sole provider under NDIS, delivering training, supervision, consultancy and direct clinical work. Eddie is highly passionate about the PBS approach and committed to supporting the sector to embed it within how we think and everything we do.
